Powerbook & IBook + X-Ray ?

Hab hier was gefunden, was ich ein wenig merkwürdig finde. hat irgendjemand von Euch ebenfalls diese Erfahrungen gemacht ?

Also ich habe bisher keine Probleme mit dem G3/Pismo gehabt, allerdings war ich seit dem 11 September nicht mehr in den Staaten - ob die wohl die Dosis erhöht haben ?

PowerBook batteries affected by x-ray machine?
A user reports that after his PowerBook was subjected to an x-ray scanner in a airport security screening, his battery no longer functioned. We do not know if this is an isolated incident, the result of new scanner technology, or indicative of a larger problem. Richard Strafehl writes:

"Immediately after my Pismo PowerBook went through an airport x-ray machine, the battery failed. My PowerBook was fully charged. After the unit was x-rayed, I was asked to turn it on, but the battery was dead! No green LEDs, nothing! The PowerBook fired up fine via AC. After I arrived home, I found the battery was a lot more than just dead. It would not accept charge, not even a charge indicator (lightning bolt absent), nothing.

I went to the Apple store and picked up another battery. While at the Apple store, another patron arrived with the exact same problem, who also just came back from a business trip. I have never seen anything about airport x-rays affecting batteries or even laptops before."

Update: Ralph Henderson adds: "I had exactly the same thing happen. I bought a used PowerBook 2400c in Japan recently. I had two batteries with me which were charged before leaving Japan. On my return to the UK neither of the batteries worked. They also refuse to charge when the power adapter is plugged in." However, Peter Kluytenaar had the opposite experience. He writes: I just returned from a trip to the States having had my PowerBook G4 passing through an X-ray machine 8 times. The battery is still working perfectly."

Update: Brian Dunham offers: "According to several photography magazine articles, the new high-powered x-ray machines can destroy compact flash cards. I wonder if the Apple batteries have some sort of similar components on-board for saving charging-related data as part of a power management system.

 

Wer gibt seinen Powerbook durch eine X-Ray am Flughafen?!?! das mach ich nicht mal mit einer DOSe - da starte ich lieber das Teil.

Am besten wirkt es, wenn man vorher ein Fenster mit einem Bildschirm füllendem Smiley anzeigt, zuklappt und dann zur Demonstration der Funktionsfähigkeit aufklappt... da lachte noch jeder Zollbeamte

Zwei Inlandsflüge und die jeweiligen Flüge von und nach Deutschland.
