Naja kommt Zeit kommt Rat, habe erst mal das OS X beim iMac meiner besseren Hälfte neu installiert und diesesmal auch dort auf HFS+, echt nicht schlecht und schnell.

wie ich MacElch schon antwortete genau da komme ich nicht drauf !
Zu YDL 2.1 bin ich bisher noch nicht gekommen, berate in letzter Zeit (seit dem iMac II) ewig DOSianer die das Ding Klasse finden auch nachdem sie es sich bei Karstadt angeschaut haben. Weil sie dann doch über den Preis stolpern, besonders nach dem aktuellen Aldiangebot.
Aber einige habe inzwischen doch Ihr Gehirn benutzt.
Mache erst mal Verleih meiner NubusMacs, selbst das finden die Klasse.
Oh man und ich denke darüber nach auf einen der Nubus YDL zu installieren wo die von den 66MHz Kisten begeistert sind (zumindet wenn 7.6.1 installiert ist.).
Mal im Ernst auf dem IIcx will ich es dann doch nicht installieren, sobald der 7100er wieder im Lande ist geht es los.

Hab gestern auch probiert und es hat ewig gedauert, hab dann doch abgebrochen. Jetzt ist es auch nicht besser. Vielleicht mal in 2 Wochen nochmal probieren, wenn Gott und die Welt es schon gesaugt haben.

Die haben zuwenig Bandbreite auf ihrem Server leider, sonst würde ich es euch saugen und per Mail als CD schicken.

Hallo MacElch & auch Apwisch,

(bin heute faul).
Werde nachher mal die beiden Adressen aufsuchen und schauen was zu machen ist. Der Jäger und Sammler schlägt dann zu ;-))
Ist supernett von Dir das Du es als CD versenden würdest.
Das wäre wahrscheinlcih auch schneller als im Moment der Download.
Wenn ich es habe sage ich Bescheid.

ich habe es mir gestern gesogen und weiß nur nicht, wie ich den Murks bootfähig brennen soll...
Tausche Know-how gegen 1x Brennen:

also die 2.1 habe ich einfach gebrannt indem ich in Toast "Image brennen" gewählt habe und los.
Aber geht unter X glaube ich auch mit DiskCopy.

Konntest Du es installieren?
Ich habe brav damit gebootet und fühlte mich beim Installieren großartig, bis er mich nach meiner Tastatur gefragt hat, die fast alle mit zwei Buchstaben bezeichnet waren. ge, dt oder sowas war nicht dabei. Ich habe dann eben was eingegeben, noch ein bißchen rumpartitioniert aber dann traten errors running the transaction set auf, das package install failed und danach war er generell unable to do irgendwas. Hat mir allerdings noch die MountPoints meiner Partition beseitigt, sodaß die Partition weg war.
Scheißteil von Installer. Wenn Du in Sachen Linux was empfehlen kannst, laß es mich bitte wissen!

Hallo Henning,

nein installiert habe ich es nicht, nur von CD starten lassen um zu schauen ob der Brand geklappt hat.
Soll auf meinen 7100er, aber der ist "on tour".
Linux für PPC habe ich sionst noch nichts getestet.
Für x86 war die Suse am einfachsten aber auch ein Fresser zum Thema Ressourcen.
Am besten fand ich dort Caldera Open Linux und Mandrake., beides auf RedHat Basis.

t occupy the entire partition

This implies that the partition information written by Drive Setup is unacceptable to "parted" and hence a method is required to modify the information such that the installation can continue.

This HOWTO presents one such method.

Details:
1) Bootup from MacOS install cd and run DriveSetup to initialize the target disk.

2) Create 2 HFS partitions sized as required (e.g. 100M partition at the end of the drive for MacOS and the other partition reserving the remainder of the space for YDL).

3) Initialize the drive.

4) Install MacOS as usual - making sure to install to the right partition (likely to be drive "untitled 2") and reboot into the newly installed MacOS.

5) Follow the YDL install instructions to install "BootX" (after having installed your favourite expander application to handle the .hqx file - OS 7.5.3 doesn't include any such utility)

6) Reboot, following the YDL instructions to boot into the text version of the installer by selection of the appropriate ram-disk image (it is important to use the text version).

7) Follow the installation instructions to the point of drive partitioning, select the drive and click "Edit".

At this point the error message detailed in the introduction will be shown - hit "OK", it will probably be shown again - hit "OK" again and now drops back to the drive selection screen.

8) Switch to another console - use Command+Option+F2 to switch to console 2 (this is the key combination that worked with my system - there may be other such combinations). It is convenient to do this at this point rather than earlier because /dev/sda is only visible once this point in the installtoin is reached.

9) At the prompt enter:

parted /dev/sda

Then at the parted prompt enter the command:

print

to print the partition map. The error message will be output again but now there is the option to "(Ignore or Cancel?)" - you want to Ignore, so enter

i
(to indicate Ignore)

and the partition map will be printed.

10) The next step is to find and remove the HFS partition which was used to reserve space for the YDL install.

From the map details identify the number of this partition - look for the name (it should be "untitled") and/or the correctly sized partition based on the start and end values.

11) Enter the command:

rm #
(where # is the partition number determined above for the HFS partition to remove)

Again you will get the error message and again choose to i(gnore).

The partition will be removed by "parted" and this will cause it to rewrite the partition map - so now the pertition map will be present in a format that "parted" will be happy with. As a check, try printing the partition map - this time there should be no error message.

12) Quit from parted and switch back to the install console with COMMAND+OPTION+F1 (or whatever your key combination is).

(An option at this point would be to reboot and select the X11 based installer image instead of continuing with the text version.)

13) Now back at the disk partition screen again, select the disk and hit "Edit" - this time you will move into the partition editing screen where you can add the partitions required for YDL as described in the installation instructions and then continue through the remainder of the installation.

Closing:
This solution may well work for other versions of Drive Setup which do not write partition information in a format acceptable to "parted". The solution was tested on a PowerPC 7500/100 but will likely work on other models also.

danke, aber leider bin ich wie gesagt noch nicht glücklicher Besitzer eines PCI Macs.
War einfach noch nicht zu schnappen in meinen Preisgefilden.

Aber gut das Du es hier eingetütet hast vielleicht hilft das ja einiges Tages mir oder jemand anders.
